Primed, Monitor, Protect: why Atlas uses decision language

Status language should communicate a bounded interpretation without pretending to diagnose the athlete.

Scope note

This article provides general performance-education information. It is not medical advice, diagnosis, treatment, or clearance to train or compete.

A label needs a job

Atlas PI uses a small vocabulary: Primed, Monitor, and Protect for current state; On Plan and On Track for execution and trajectory. These labels are not diagnoses. They organize the available performance context and indicate how much attention a decision may deserve.

Trends matter

Athlete-monitoring research emphasizes individual baselines, measurement variability, and false signals. A status belongs beside its drivers, recency, and data quality—not as an independent command. Primed does not mean invulnerable, and Protect does not automatically mean stop.

The language contract

Good status language is restrained, consistent, and reversible when new information arrives. It should help the athlete and coach ask a better question while preserving their authority and the priority of professional guidance.

Key takeaways

  • Statuses organize context; they do not diagnose.
  • Every label remains connected to its drivers.
  • Human and professional judgment retains authority.
